About

Hi there,

I am a Los Angeles-based actor and filmmaker from Greenville, South Carolina.

Background odds and ends:

  • I love animals. I grew up on a farm with llamas, goats, chickens, and emus. Plus, more “traditional” pets – rabbits, hamsters, cats, and dogs. Elephants are my favorite.
  • I’ve traveled to 14 countries. Very grateful for these highlights: rowing a gondola in Venice, singing on a Sound of Music bike tour in Salzburg, and exploring ancient Angkor Wat in Siem Reap.
  • I earned my bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Clemson University and believe in the importance of life-long learning.

My mission: Use audiovisual media as “edutainment” to inspire, spread empathy, and with that understanding, bring people closer together.

Creating Stories

I grew up watching and quoting movie musicals like the Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz, and Grease. But I was inspired to act by the late great Robin Williams. Mesmerized by his fast-paced wit, silly voices, and high energy, I aspire to bring to others the same joy, laughter, and meaning he brought me.

Always the fan of Who’s Line Is It Anyway?, I joined Clemson University’s auditioned improv troupe, Mock Turtle Soup, to perform fun monthly shows on campus. Once in LA, I enrolled at The Groundlings and joined The Lost Boys, an all-female improv ensemble. I even attended a taping of Who’s Line to see my favorites Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie do their magic in person!

I remember an interview with Director Gary Marshall of Princess Diaries saying Anne Hathaway was very successful because she was a pretty girl making ugly faces; that has always resonated with me as an actor who didn’t want to just be the “pretty girl,” but to also be funny and intelligent.

In Los Angeles, I worked with MTV for two comedic promos and acted in a variety of indie films. I found my ace as the sincere, wholesome, coming-of-age romantic lead who is always well-intentioned, even if, at times, neurotic.

I’ve always known I wanted to act in films. Filmmaking is a relatively newfound love. I spent 10+ years creating my own videos on YouTube and discovered I really enjoyed editing. In 2019, I created my first narrative film, “Adultlings,” and have since worked behind-the-camera in many different facets. I’m appreciating the experimental process of learning and developing your voice and style as a filmmaker, as well as the freedom that comes from creating your own films.

With Global Impact

Languages and different forms of communication have always held a personal fascination. I remember a random lesson on Swahili in 2nd grade and wondering why we didn’t learn other languages sooner. I’ve always considered music my first language (and loved that it is a universal language anyone could understand) as I grew up playing classical piano. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Clemson University in secondary education, Spanish after studying abroad in Mexico and teaching high school students for a semester. I also worked one summer as an au pair teaching English in Spain.

I’ve been very fortunate to travel internationally and check off bucket list items like seeing the Shroud of Turin in Italy, racing Mario karts through the streets of Tokyo, and taking in the Taj Mahal on my first solo trip. I love learning about other cultures and seeing the world’s history. And there’s just something about travel that brings novelty to the mundane; something as simple as finding food or the bus becomes a unique challenge and adventure.

But for as much culture shock as I may experience, I’m always struck by how we are so much more alike than we are different. I want to use the medium of film to tell universal human stories with which anyone could connect.

For Good

I believe we all have the power to make a positive difference in the world. These are causes dear to my heart:

  • wildlife conservation
  • ending world hunger
  • eradicating childhood poverty

By now, you know that this Moose loves animals after growing up with llamas and the like on a “mini farm” in South Carolina. We even bottle-raised some goats in our kitchen! After learning about the benefits of a diet without animal products, I decided to go plant-based 4 years ago. For me, this reevaluation has allowed me to make lifestyle choices more in alignment with my values. If you are interested in adding some delicious plant-based recipes to your rotation, Pick Up Limes is a great place to start.

It was a dream come true to visit Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2019. This is a rescue sanctuary founded by Lek Chailert to provide care, protection, and conservation to elephants and other endangered species. I would also love to visit and work with Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to protect my very favorite, African elephants. I currently give to the World Wildlife Fund and am looking for more ways to help protect these beautiful creatures and their habitats.

Another long-term interest near to my heart is sponsorship of a child in Peru through Compassion International. This non-profit encourages supportive relationships between sponsors and the sponsored through letter-writing, as well as providing the local associated community with education, health care, and living necessities. Please check out their site if you are interested in ways to help.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my interests and mission. If you would like to connect and work together, please do not hesitate to reach out. See you on set!

Sending love,

Kaitlin Moose
